MAS MASH 2019 brought together a wide spectrum of animators, illustrators, and studios to celebrate Arab animation. The event’s unique talks, screenings, workshops and showcases presented a holistic look into animation as both a practice and form of cultural expression.

The 2019 edition hosted talent from Arab-dubbed cartoons of the 80s and 90s including Jihad Al Atrashi, the voice actor of Grandizer who, alongside the accomplished artist Sammy Clark, performed original songs from the show. MAS MASH also examined the animation industry in the Arab world and curated an exhibition featuring the works of exciting, emerging animators.

The MAS MASH brand embodies a dual-appeal: nostalgic at heart yet modern in outlook. The brand developed for the festival abstracts past centuries of character design, glitchy animations and RGB color schemes. Its 80s-inspired palette and deconstructed custom-lettering gave the event a distinctly vibrant brand identity to expand its mass appeal.
